When I say nobody, I mean not even a bot. Notice how Mario is sliding everywhere? Everything seems pretty slippery in this game. I'm prety sure that the level plays itself (no bot included) simply through marion sliding and bouncing across various obejcts on his own.

Nobody's controlling Mario. It's one of those self playing stages. that's why there are so many not blocks to bounce him around.
