The original texts have not been changed. "How bad are the translations?" The Bible has been translated into more than a thousand languages. Why don't you check them ALL and come back. Greek and Hebrew concordances can give you the original language and definition if it will help you.

Laws given to an ancient nation that no longer exists, and that was under an old covenant that no longer exists, are not binding on a congregation of believers who are made up of various nationalities, who are under a totally different covenant.
