well we called whoever had the most hp/armor combination the tank, whoever could take the biggest beating, as for some of the classifications, im used to playing dnd and thats pretty much what we used, except for wizard and scorceror

There is no such thing as a tank in RPGs. *sighs* I dislike these sterotype classifications of "fighter, mage, thief" anyway.
