I don't think Welles purposely avoided Bresson's hand... I think he was just too caught up in memorizing his next sentence in French!
Although it's wonderful to see these three geniuses together, it pains me to see that the pretentiousness of Cannes and the stuffiness of the crowd had such an influence on them that day. In all other interviews, documentaries, etc., they are most pleasant people...

bresson was there for the highest prize... het said so!. But the younger couldn`t expect more than the master. They made a salomonic desission: to create a new award and to share it. For bresson, because he deserves all prizes in the world of art! and andrei for to make one of the most beautiful movies in the art world! thoe only hilarious thing in this event as an extraordinary event is... ¿how many people has seen the two movies? and the 20 total movies made between these two artist!!!??????
