Apparently Phil Collins was drinking heavily during the making of this album and you can tell at the beginning of this clip, he keeps stumbling over his words. Good clip though.

I also have that clip (got it from the internet) and watched it several times since then. As you can see, the major part of the song was recorded live (instead of track by track for each instrument) and they needed to play it in a certain timing so that it sounds "tight", but they simply couldn't get the job done. I guess that's what Collins refers to when he talks about the "weird vibe" of that day. Maybe they didn't release the song because they were unsatisfied with the recording results.
