You are right. Science describes mechanisms, and mathematical formulas predict the outcomes of experiments. But it doesn't explain why or how.

That's true for sexual reproduction, Cruiserhog, but what about asexual reproduction? At what point does a given species of bacteria end and another begin?

speciation occurs when a daughter population is so genetically isolated from its parent specie they can longer reproduce viable offspring. A mutation is basically abhorrent, and is only considered beneficial if it allows the org. to survive better, to reproduce in greater numbers than others and hence pass on its genome.

" _ FACT: Truly "good science" doesn't claim the scientific "theory" state until your finding have been peer reviewed, published, and evidence is gathered that supports your hypothesis over any other explanation. FACT: If you have a scientific theory, your publishing should be relatively easy to find. Please reference a publishing, or the name of the work you have completed.

It explains phenomena naturally and describes the mechanisms and processes involved utilizing evidence. Evidence either supports a hypothesis, or falsifies it. Nothing about 'proving'. AND, it's open to falsifiability, which is why you might feel like you're ice-skating uphill right now.
