by the way Reznor has openly admitted that this song "was a total rip-off of 'Dig It' by Skinny Puppy." Love NIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! skinny puppy is good too, but nothing beats NIN

it doesn't if you have listened to down in it for a while, and then listen to this, but if you go the other way around than it does a lot. i did both and i noticed after listening to "Dig IT" for a few weeks straight (as in maybe 1-3 times a day) that after hearing "Down In It" again, i was waiting for Ogre's voice to come in...then came in Trent's.

I don't think the song Down In It sounds that much like this.

And I dont think that Trent Reznor lent his drum and guitar tracks to this song 2 years before his songs came out...I dont understand your point, I was drawing comparisons, as it has been said that this song in particullar was a big influence on Nine Inch Nails...then Nothing Records artists I guess.

well i don't think that Manson had a band (or his stage name) in 1986 when this was released....

probably all the vocoding and compression he uses on his vocals, to MAKE it sound like that. It's got nothing to do with the "quality" of his voice!

Honestly...the drums from Down In It, the guitar from Terrible Lie...and the vocals from Manson =/.

C'mon people, don't fight. Everyone knows that Pretty Hate Machine was influenced by SP. Skinny Puppy are awesome. Thing is NIN moved on to do many other sounds/styles that aren't so directly influenced by SP. You can't take anything away from NIN, truly one of the greats. Everythig comes from something else. EVERYTHING. Anyway..... Killer song, cool video, 5 stars. New SP spring 09!

Oddly, when I was really into this sort of thing, in the late 80s, I didn't really like Skinny Puppy all that much. But now, years later and with very different musical interests, I find myself enjoying them much more. |
