Hurt isn't about her dad dying. Her dad is still alive, as a matter of fact, he's the one who released the news about her pregnancy to the press.
However, Linda Perry, one of the main writers on Christina's albums, had just lost HER father during the recording, and Christina wanted to do a song about loss and losing someone and so Linda could very much relate and wrote what would eventually be molded into Hurt after Christina changed some of the original lyrics. Oh no, her father is very much still alive. However, her mom left him a very long time ago because of the abuse. If you listen to "I'm Okay" on Stripped, that song talks about the abuse as well. It's had a huge impact on Christina.
If you watch the video for "Save Me From Myself", it uses footage from she and Jordan's wedding and she walks herself down the isle.
Thus, her dad is not dead, just very out of the picture. The sleeze was writing a book bashing Christina at one point, tho.

this isnt a grab for attention , but my mum and i were beaten by my father and we are so strong now he is gone , still bearing the scars of him though, Its horrible and nothing to joke about becuase its closer to the heart than some people think
