Nah... that's got nothing to do with it. There's no need to use stooges. He's just using the average persons natural tendency to comply... the reason he asks all his volunteers to do a number of things before trying each experiment is that it makes them feel relaxed about complying.
He says "Wait for as long as you like". How many times to they wait more than about two seconds? Obviously if you wait a long time you make the 'coincidence' less likely. He just got them working for him in advance.

the first one he got from david copperfield..... at 1:01 when he lets go, he does it a different way(just make both ur thumbs point up,interlock them and turn both them left)
