Ford doesn't build Mustangs to fly. That was true back in 1968 when Steve McQueen sent a GT 390 soaring over the hills of San Francisco in Bullitt. And it's true of the new 315-horsepower 2008 Mustang Bullitt. We jumped it anyway. Not because we wanted to, but because we had to. It's a Mustang Bullitt, and that means it's gotta fly. no, i see your point, im just saying that for $30,000, which i consider a lot of money for a car, i would want some technology. taking an enormous engine and then having it only develop 300 bhp isnt really something i would want because a large engine like that still gobbles up fuel. i cant wait to see fords ecoboost, i think that would be a great idea.

You're missing the point. A smaller engine making 300 bhp has to work harder and inject more fuel per stroke than a larger engine making 300 bhp. Thus the engine would be less reliable (not to say it isn't reliable, but the larger naturally aspirated engine will be more reliable than the smaller force fed engine).

and yep your right about the aftermarket, but most people cant afford to put 10, 20 grand into their cars.

well, my point was that if ford just wanted 300 bhp and no more, they should have just made a v6 turbo or a small v8 like a 4.2 liter or something. it would have been more acceptable, and maybe get better gas mileage.

And the aftermarket isn't limited to just engine mods either. You can rip out your entire Mustang's rear suspension and upgrade to a system that will let you run with Evo's around the track. Thats another reason why people love Mustangs. You can make it your own more-so than most other cars. And for cheaper too.

Yeah I wanted a Mustang once upon a time too. Make no mistake though, they are good cars and very reliable. The reason Ford didn't press the huge engine for more power is because its safe that way. A 4.6L V8 isn't putting forth any effort to produce 300 bhp (thus is can run on regular gas). Plus the aftermarket for the Mustang is ridiculously huge. Superchargers, turbochargers, prochargers, twin turbochargers, cams, headers, stroker kits, ANYTHING.

Corvettes (especially the Z06's) have killer brakes and suspension from the factory. He lives in Houston so I only see him for the holidays and such, but so far as I know he has no need to upgrade his brakes or suspension. My dad picked up an LS1 Corvette a couple weeks ago and it handles amazingly well, better than my RX8. And even though its the "base" model Corvette, its still fast as hell, though obviously not nearly as fast as his twin's modified Z06.
