Well, it's just because the russian had so many troops. Germany was the elite of WW2 and they were more advanced than everyone else.

At the time, China didn't have the large population it has today. The Chinese were also involved in a Civil War after the last dynasty collapsed. The Japanese took the opportunity and attacked. They faced little resistance. Plus the people fighting the Civil War preferred to kill each other than unite against the Japanese.

The germans were 30 miles or so from Moscow when winter came, the russians were beaten , but the germans simply froze, and from then on out, they were on the defence most of the time |
