It's about when he (Dante) sees Beatrice after years and love appears in the form of a woman and hands her Dantes still beating heart, knowing she'll kill him if she takes it and loose him if she doesnt - i think. Either way, absolutely beautiful. I brought the Hannibal Rising soundtrack for this one song.

To you eggheads out there; Try to enjoy the music instead of picking it to death. Pick pick pick. And on a religious note, take a lesson fron the story of Martha and Mary; Don't worry so much about the cleansliness of the house, but dwell in the love of Jesus first. This is beautiful music. I like that someone associated the beauty of Christ withthe beauty of music like his. God bless you all.

Wholeheartedly. It's almost trespassing. It trivializes the actual message and intent of not only the duetto itself, but also the work by Dante on which it was based. Neither of them have anything, at all, to do with religion.

I think that what has generated so much annoyance from this depiction is that this is not remotely a religious piece. Sure, you are free to co-opt it to suit your own purposes, which if we're to be honest is what you've done, but I think the question that people are asking is "why would you?" It's akin to taking a hymn and using it to promote something like a casino. The disparity between the two makes it ludicrous. For those of us that love the music, it's also hugely presumptuous to do so.

Also - get this - apparently this little bit of music has become so popular (Sarah Brightman, opera groups etc) that a full length opera has been comissioned because of it. Hope it's all as good as this...

It was written for the film - but you are right that it was based on Dante's sonnets written about his true love - so why is this set to pictures of christ? It's got nothing to do with god/religion - would anyone agree??

Vide Cor Meum was not written for hannibal. It was composed by Patrick Cassidy based on Dante's "La Vita Nuova". It first appeared in the movie Hannibal so many think it was specifically composed for the film. But the composer composed it based out of inspiration from the Dante work not off Hannibal film.
