maybe the only girl who could have done a damned good version would have been Janice Joplin. But she was long dead before the song was written. Amy Winehouse could do it well. But these warbling x factor idiots ruin too many classics for my liking and the younger generation end up growing up thinking that it was the original. Booooo I say

Burke's version is a total insult! This is far more emotive! Why did so many people buy such rubbish when this was on offer? And even Peter Kay! (Blocked by at least one major radio station! - makes you think the charts are rigged!) And you have had over 4 times the views of Burkes thing!

i think we all know that leonard cohen wrote and performed the song and that jeff buckly's version is the definitive version, cover of cohen as it is. This strange argument over a couple of birds with similar voices ruining a fantastic song seems irrelivent. They do have similar voices to each other, they are both talented in their own right. But the point should be that whichever one ( burke or lewis or whichever x factor production line ) attempted to sing it should have left well alone

I applaud your opinion ninja. your ears are so finely tuned that you know No difference between Alex Burke and Leona Lewis (can I boldy suggest you may be fibbing and have heards neither of them sing??). this answers may questions about your appreciation of this cohen cover. I know of good pharmacies that can provide very good ear wax removing solutions :)

Dawkin...i have very happy orgasms and remember moving in things and the holy dove ...you get the drift...I think this song should be very happy but it's been so overanalysed by people in tweed that it is now known as a serious, meaningful song. Listen and watch Cohens arrangements...(fair enough he endorsed Buckleys version) you can tell he never intended it to be sung like JB did it, he was probably pleasantly suprised cos JB's is 'ok'.... but it,s certainly not as intended by the author

Iv'e listened to this about 100 times now literally , and im not bored at all , its a brilliant song .. alexandra is just a bloody replica of leona lewis , alexadras version is not as near as good as this one .

beautiful sad song..i like it a lot.

this is like fifty thousand times better than that shit made by alexandra, the british x factor winner. She makes it sound like a happy song and thats something this never should be

oh please. as if someone can say some bird who won a crap tv show, released a better version of this song. sssh now

be honest, it's fookin boring after a couple of listens...go on you can admit it...without the clique of 'folkie' fans pissing on your joint...its a bit tardy compared to new refreashing versions. Cohen would be dancing for joy knowing Alexandra had released a much more uplifting version. After all - in Jeffs words - It's a celebratiuon of the orgasm!!! And lets face it this version needs viagra!! Happy New Yr to all :) byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
