What about M-theory and parallel universes? Isn't it possible that the physical universe isn't the only one? What if this is only a very small part of a much larger, unseen universe? If the physical universe is all that exists. how is it that so many people have experienced their spirits leaving their bodies and coming back? What is the experience of ecstasy, where you feel your body and spirit taken over by an unexplainable, blissful, sweet energy/feeling that totally envelops you with love?

People say atheists don't have spirituality. I can't speak for other atheists but questions like these make me spiritual.

I don't think the issue is so much, "Is there life?", but "Is there life like us?". There were literally hundreds of thousands of species that could have evolved into a species like us over the last 500 million years, but they didn't (so far as we can tell). It could be that there is a tremendous amount of life, but none of it is life we can have any meaningful communication with.
