lousindiaye is right. The drummer is AfricanAmerican: Omar Hakim, born in NYC.
Great drummer who also played with Weather Report/Joe Zawinul & Jaco & Wayne Shorter, Sting etc. He was in the 'house band' on this show, led by David Sandborn-sax player/host. They were playing w/Yousou's guys on the show.

The show was called 'Nightmusic' it was a GREAT TV show for hearing the BEST musicians... Live music. Incredible & ahead of it's time. Now we only get over-glorified garage rock bands, lip-sync and rap over CDs.

Ugly sentiments cobenobo, got to learn to love yourself, love your roots, and love others. What can I, a white guy, do about the things my ancestors did? What, exactly am I supposed to do? I shouldn't even feel bad about it, but because of the way I was raised, I do.

The song doesn't have a video, but you can check "Shakin' The Tree" the duet with Peter Gabriel. It's a very good song
